SWINDON Panthers have kicked off their season with three successive wins - including one against a team who had not lost for two years.

Against the Swindon Rec Wildcats, Panthers came up against a very hot Pete Davis in the net, who faced 80 shots and only conceded nine goals, however, their back-up netminder conceded nine in just 20 shots.

The Panthers won 18-4 as Scott Gough, who netted five, Paul Wojciak (four) and Aaron Dosa (two) got among the goals.

Panthers then travelled to Cardiff Eagles and returned home with a 5-3 success.

Wojciak opened the scoring for the visitors in the fourth minute before Eagles drew level.

Swindon’s lead was quickly restored thanks to a fine goal from Dosa.

Szabi Balint made it 3-1 in the 18th minute with a lovely individual goal before Cardiff reduced the arrears a minute later.

The Panthers started the third period on clean ice and made it 4-2 following a strike from Gough.

Cardiff pulled the scores back to 4-3 with seven minutes left on the clock, however, Matt Crouch rushed forward from defence across the net dropping the puck between his legs of Gough to net his second with two minutes remaining.

Panther then took on Peterborough Dynamo, a side that had not lost in two years, however, the hosts were in a ruthless mood and stormed to a 14-4 success.

The game kicked off at a high tempo and Swindon were in front in the second minute when Brad Edington saw his shot deflected home.

Swindon doubled their advantage in the sixth minute when David Lovejoy popped up with a nice finish after some good work from Croucher and Balint.

The game did not see another goal until the 16th minute when Dynamo halved the deficit, but Gough restored Panthers’ two-goal lead soon after.

Panthers went in at the first break with a 4-1 lead when Johan Perrsson flipped the puck forward through the legs of the Dynamo centre at the face off and sped through and finished the move through the Peterborough netminder’s legs.

In the second period, Panthers raced into a 11-1 lead as Gough added two more to complete his hat-trick, while the Baliant brothers bagged one each, Perrsson grabbed his second of the match and James Burnett and Rob Croucher were also on target. However, Dynamo finished the period with two goals in the final minute.

Panthers continued to control the game in the third period and saw Andrew Shurmer make it 12-3.

Perrsson went on to bag his third of the match before Burnett completed the hosts scoring.

Panthers host Cardiff at the Link Centre on Saturday (5.15pm).
