UNFORTUNATELY, injuries are part of the parcel of the game when you sign up to play ice hockey and I wish Toms Rutkis a speedy recovery after the weekend.

I’ve been relatively lucky with my career when it comes to injury - the worst one I’ve had to deal with is concussion over the years.

Concussion is frustrating because there is no real timescale of when you can get back to playing but from that it has been a few broken fingers and a broken nose.

While people do get injured, it’s not something you have in the back of your mind, you probably get injured more if you do worry about it.

It’s something you can’t think about because you wouldn’t be effective on the ice if it was playing on your mind.

It’s tough to see when a teammate does get quite a nasty injury, but I didn’t see what happened with Toms.

When he came back to the bench it wasn’t pretty, when it is a facial injury there is a lot of blood, it wasn’t nice.

I’ve spoken to him so hopefully he is on the mend. My heart goes out to him because he is a great kid and he’d made a good start to the season.

The game against Telford Tigers was strange for me because I don’t think I have ever played there as an away player before.

I still get on with a lot of the players who are there and I recognised a few familiar faces in the crowd so it was nice to see everyone.

What made it even better was the fact we came away with two points, which is something we have to aim for again this weekend.

Last weekend saw two great results against Basingstoke Bison and Telford so I’m hoping that means we’ve turned a corner.

We need to take it a game at a time but I think we should aim for a bit of redemption on Saturday before we go to Streatham on Sunday.

Streatham is a rink I have never been to before and it is a team I have never played against either, so that will be a bit of an unknown for me.

We are a team who have been built to win and in the last few years I’ve been in teams who have been competitive at the right end of the league, so we have to go for four points this weekend.
