MAX Birbraer netted an overtime winner against Cardiff Fire to complete a four-point weekend for Swindon Wildcats in NIHL South One this evening as they edged to a narrow 3-2 success on the road.
Aaron Nell’s side were emphatic 6-2 winners at home to Streatham on Saturday night but found life much tougher going in the Welsh capital.
Chris Jones gave the Cats an early lead but Fire were able to get back all-square before the end of the first period and the two teams then played out a goalless second session.
Cardiff were first to strike in the final period but Jones was the man to step up to the mark for the visitors once again as his second goal of the day sent the contest into overtime.
Nell’s troops were able to find an extra gear over the additional five minutes and Birbraer ensured they headed back to Swindon with both points with a late winner.
