PLAYER-coach Aaron Nell says he is delighted to reveal that Renny Marr has agreed a deal with the Swindon Wildcats for next season The Scotsman joined the Cats in the summer, after replacing Stevie Lyle, and has been a revelation between the pipes at the Link Centre.

After initially splitting games with fellow netminder and new arrival Matt Smital, the 20 soon established himself as the club’s number one choice, before making 31 appearances for the Cats.

Marr becomes the third member of the team to agree deals for next season, as Stevie Whitfield and Sam Bullas committed to the cause earlier this year.

“Renny has been great all season and in the last month he has improved again so we are delighted to get him back,” said Nell.

“It’s one of the most important signings to make and it is good that we have done it so quickly.

“We are always thinking about next year, but to be perfectly honest we have been thinking about it a little bit less than we have in previous years because of the trophies we have been playing for.

“Normally there is a lot more done than there is now, but once the National Cup is out the way, we will sit down with all the players The Cats are now without a fixture until Wednesday, April 11, when they travel to Sheffield Steeldogs for the opening leg of their National Cup Final.

Despite the delay, Nell says the break will only be a good thing for his side.

“We won’t play a friendly in the gap. The players will have a week off, we will practice next week and then prepare for Sheffield.

“Logistically, it wouldn’t really work to get a friendly in.

“It’s one of those things. All season we have been playing teams while we are tired.

“This time it is going to be Sheffield who will be the tired team.”
