Another blow to Cats' play-off chances

SWINDON Wildcats assistant coach Simon Anderson has called for urgency in the Link Centre camp after a 6-3 defeat at Bracknell Bees left the Wiltshire outfit’s play-off prospects in jeopardy.

The Cats fell apart after a good start and now face a struggle to make the top eight in the final EPL standings.

Anderson said: “We’ve still got a chance of making the play-offs but the games are starting to run out so we need to start picking up points quickly.

“It was a big game but not quite a ‘must-win’ at this stage.

“This was a game we were very capable of winning though, against a side down there at the wrong end like us, so in that respect it’s disappointing.”

Swindon took a comfortable 2-0 lead into the first break, with Jan Krajicek opening the scoring at 8.14. Aaron Nell and Matt Foord combined well, forcing Carl Ambler into a smart save but Krajicek was on hand to power in the rebound.

The advantage was doubled at 16.24 thanks to a rare shorthanded goal for Swindon when Raimonds Danilics rifled past Ambler.

But the Cats were left to rue 10 minutes of madness in the second frame which saw the hosts hit five without reply to effectively kill the game.

Michal Pinc netted first on 25 minutes and then quickly teed up Nicky Watt for the equaliser.

Former Wildcat Watt then bagged his second before Terry Miles made it 4-2.

Cats then gave away a penalty stroke and Jaroslav Cesky made no mistake to fire past Douglas.

Swindon improved in the final session and Foord’s goal gave them a glimmer of hope but as they chased the game netminder Chris Douglas was pulled and Cesky fired into an empty net in the dying seconds.

A disappointed Anderson added: “We started really well at Bracknell and had a great first period.

“We knew Bracknell would come out strongly in the second but we didn’t deal with it and the referee didn’t do us any favours either with some of his decisions.”

Great away support by Wildcats fans tonight. Lady luck just isn't going for us at the moment, along with some more bizarre refs decisions. Getting fed up of having David Plunkett always officiating, recent officials seem to be partially sighted and colour blind - in favour of the team not in red!!!
