Wildcats hit eight past Phantoms

SWINDON bounced back from a narrow defeat to high-flying Guildford on Saturday with an emphatic 8-1 thrashing of Peterborough last night.

The visitors were in determined mood from the off in the English Premier League clash and found themselves four goals to the good following the opening period.

Aaron Nell opened the scoring for the visitors midway through the session and then Jaroslav Cesky and Jonas Hoog took the lead out to 3-0.

Nell got his second less than three minutes before the first break and Wildcats were well in control.

The onslaught continued in the second period as Nell completed his hat-trick, before Michal Pinc converted and Nell added another.

Jeff Glowa pulled one back for Peterborough but a comeback was never on the cards.

With 39 seconds gone in the final period, Cesky bagged his second to round off an emphatic victory.

On Saturday, Swindon back from three goals down but still lost 5-3 at home to table-toppers Guildford.

Branislav Kvetan put the Flames ahead in the 14th minute when he received a pass in front of the net and converted.

A matter of moments later, Nathan Rempel doubled the lead as he fired into the top corner past netminder Tom Murdy.

In a fiery second period, Andrew Sharp took the advantage out to 3-0 and Swindon looked in major trouble.

But at this point the home side began their fightback, with Czech import Michal Pinc seizing on the loose puck to lash past Mark Lee.

Minutes later and despite being shorthanded, Wildcats netted a second as Aaron Nell finished a pass across the crease (38.55).

With six minutes remaining of the final period, Nicky Watt directed home a rebound to level the match at 3-3.

But at 55.54 a deflected shot from Rempel left Murdy helpless and restored the visitors’ lead, before David Longstaff wrapped up the win with an empty net goal.

Wildcats face Bracknell at home this coming Saturday.
