SWINDON Wildcats have released forward James Knight to make room on their roster to allow netminder Dean Skinns to stay at the club until the end of the season.
Skinns has been impressive between the pipes since being drafted in as injury cover for regular starter Tom Murdy at the end of December, and Knight has been sacrificed to allow him to continue alongside Murdy when he returns to fitness.
“I need to keep Dean in Swindon for the rest of the year as we push up the table and into the play-offs,” head coach Ryan Aldridge said.
“Unfortunately, the only way to do this is to release someone else from the roster, and in this instance that player is James Knight.
“James has been a solid member of the team in his time here and I know how much both our fans and his team mates will miss him. This has been a very tough call to make, but one that I feel has to be made as we look to climb the league.
“It’s the only part of my job that I hate, but I have to do what is best for the team.
“James will be a great pick-up for any team in our league and I truly wish him the best for the future.”
