Swindon Wildcats' weekend ends on a low

SWINDON Wildcats suffered an overtime defeat in Bracknell last night, as their weekend finished on a low.

Cats travelled to Bracknell on a high after Saturday’s superb 7-3 win at home to Peterborough Phantoms.

And Ryan Aldridge’s side were less than six minutes from a perfect weekend having led Bees until late in the final period.

Bracknell edged the opening period when Shaun Thompson gave them the lead.

But two quick goals from Michal Pinc (32.10) and Jaroslav Cesky (35.58) gave Wildcats the lead.

With no further score in the second period, Cats just needed a shutout to take all the points.

However, at 53.40, Bracknell’s pressure finally told and they levelled matters and forced overtime.

Bracknell quickly took the iniative in overtime, when Sergejs Louskins scored at 62.26 with Cats unable to respond.

On Saturday, Cats fired seven past Peterborough at the Link Centre.

The home side were quickly ahead when the in-form Aaron Nell fired home the first.

A second wasn’t far away and minutes later, a deflected shot from Nicky Watt found its way into the Phantoms’ net.

Two soon became three as Ryan Aldridge picked up a loose puck and fed Jonas Hoog to slot home the third.

Wildcats continued their domination, adding a fourth on the powerplay courtesy of import Pinc, firing into the top corner of the goal.

A stunning opening period was finally closed by a fifth Swindon goal, Cesky scoring a fine individual effort from his own blue line.

The second period started with Peterborough finally stopping the rot but normal service was resumed by the home side soon after when Nell grabbed his second goal of the night.

James Ferrara hit back for the visitors late in the period before Hoog made sure with a seventh Wildcats goal in the final period.

Peterborough had the final say with a powerplay goal late on but Swindon clinched a fully deserved 7-3 victory.
