SWINDON Wildcats have completed their line-up of imports for the coming season with the arrival of Finnish forward Matias Perkkiö.

The 25-year-old spent last season with Finnish Mestis league club Hockey-Team Oy Vaasa Sport, and will now join up with returning imports Jonas Hoog and Jan Melichar and new signing Michal Kapicka, who played in French ice hockey last season.

Perkkiö comes to Wiltshire having spent all of his career playing at a high level in his homeland, and Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge is excited to have him at the club.

“It’s great to have a guy like Matias in our line-up,” he said.

“I am sure he will be a massive part of our success this season, he is a very skilled hockey player and he has competed at a very high level indeed.

“Like (Michal) Kapicka, he joins us having won silverware last season with his previous club, and I'm sure he will bring leadership along with the will to win to the Wildcats.

“I know he is excited about his new challenge as well as his venture to the UK and he is hungry to do well and succeed with our club.

“He has been working hard all summer and has already been in camp so he will be ready to go from the off.

“I am excited with the way the team has come together and the wait for the last few guys will be worth it I’m sure.”

Perkkiö began his junior playing career with Kärpät in Finland, before moving up to the senior game with Kiekko-Vantaa in the 2008-09 season where he spent the next two years before moving on to Kookoo.

His next stop was Kiekko-Laser during the 2010-11 season where he scored an impressive 17 points in 19 games, and he then joined Vaasa Sport last season where he won a championship medal.
