12:17pm
North-Easterner Laura Weightman finishes sixth and claims the final automatic qualifying spot for the 1,500m semi-finals. Tough old race, but she's through.
12:07pm
really hope laura weightman qualifies

12:07pm
Lisa Dobriskey runs an excellent tactical race to sweep wide and win the second heat of the women's 1,500m. They went a very slow pace, but Dobriskey kicked superbly from the final bend.
One more heat to come - and it features Alnmouth's Laura Weightman, who is trained in Hexham by Steve Cram.
11:56am
Hannah England finishes fifth in opening heat of the women's 1,500m - automatic qualifier for semi-finals.
11:52am
Over in the discus, GB's Laurence Okoye has just thrown a no-throw that very nearly decapitated a photographer. Not the Northern Echo's Chris Booth I hasten to add....
11:43am
We are wishing second year student and @TeamGB athlete Laura Weightman best of luck this morning in the 1500m. http://t.co/H3ZJ4HuD

One more event left on the morning track programme - and it's the one with North-East interest.
The heats of the women's 1,500m. Hannah England goes in the first, Lisa Dobriskey is in the second, and Morpeth Harrier Laura Weightman lines up in the third.
11:33am
Away from the athletics, Tim Brabant has made his canoeing final in eighth position. He's the reigning gold medallist after triumphing in Beiing, but he's had a wretched time with injury and nearly didn't make these Olympic Games.
11:25am
Very disappointing 800m heat run from Michael Rimmer. Put himself to the front and looked in control, but ran out of gas completely in the last 100m and slipped back to fifth. The time means he's already out and won't be involved in the semis.
11:09am
Just seen Andrew Osagie's int/vew after qualifying in 800m, reminded yet again how lovely as well as talented @TeamGB is #proudtobebritish

11:08am
Gareth Warburton finishes fifth for GB in heat three - he'll have to wait and see if he's a fastest loser, but there was quite a gap between the top four and him.
11:01am
Andrew Osagie produces excellent sprint finish to qualify for 800m semi-finals in third position. Heat winner David Rodisha, from Kenya, looked mightily impressive.
The third heat sees Gareth Warburton going for GB. He's up against Sudan's excellent Abubaker Kaki.
10:49am
Next up - the heats of the men's 800m. The first British interest comes in heat two, with Andrew Osagie competing. Top three and three fastest losers progress to the semi-finals.
10:48am
Australia's Sally Pearson recorded the fastest time in the women's 100 metre hurdles heats.
She's the world champion and one of the favourites for gold - and let's be honest, as they trail miles behind GB in the medal table, the Aussies need all the gold medals they can get!
10:22am
Pic on front of today's @TheNorthernEcho is still my fave from #London2012 - look of absolute shock & delight from Kat Copeland is great

10:22am
American Kellie Wells looks good as she cruises home in the third of the women's 100m hurdles heats.
Away from the athletics stadium, flatwater canoeing medal hope Tim Brabants has safely qualified for the semi-finals of the K1 1,000m event.
10:08am
Tiffany Porter finishes third and gains an automatic place in the semi-finals.
Jess Ennis was entered into the 100m hurdles, but opted not to compete after she secured her heptathlon gold at the weekend.
10:05am
The first race of the day is the opening heat of the women's 100m hurdles, with Tiffany Porter going for GB in lane two. First three through to semi-finals, with six fastest losers also progressing.
9:55am
Laura Weightman, from Lesbury #Northumberland, is running in the 1500m heats 11.50 today. Good luck @teamgb

9:54am
Also this morning, we've got Tiffany Porter in the heats of the women's 100m hurdles and Michael Rimmer, Andrew Osagie and Gareth Warburton in the first round of the men's 800m.
And don't forget later on this afternoon, Hartlepool's Savannah Marshall fights in the quarter-finals of the middleweight women's boxing. Win, and she's guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
9:52am
Welcome back to the Olympic Stadium, where the buzz that accompanied Usain Bolt's sensational 100m final victory last night is just about beginning to recede.
There's unlikely to be quite as much drama this morning, but there's a packed programme nonetheless.
The final event on the track this morning is the one with North-East interest, with Morpeth Harrier Laura Weightman competing in the final heat of the 1,500m. She should be off just after midday.
