Swindon Advertiser: Councillor Tim Pollard Councillor Tim Pollard

People will be able to try their hand at some Paralympic sports amongst other events over the next week.

On Saturday 1 September, Monks Hill Sports Centre in South Croydon will be opening their doors between 10.30am and 3pm for anyone who wants to try out wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, athletics and judo.

Croydon's young athletes took gold in this year's London Disability Youth Games.

Councillor Tim Pollard, cabinet member for children, families and learning, said: “We’d be delighted to find even more disabled athletes who’d like to join our youth games team for next year.

“However this day isn’t just for people with disabilities, we’d love everyone to come along and give these sports a go.”

In addition, on Thursday 6 September from 2pm, the Queen’s Gardens outside the Town Hall will be alive with performers as part of the Mayor of London’s Showtime Series.

Also on Sunday 9 September at the Queen’s Gardens, there will Croydon’s contribution to the UK-wide Bandstand Marathon.

Hundreds of squares, parks and public spaces will be hosting some of country’s best local musicians. It will run from 1pm to 5.30pm.
