Michael Smith continued his perfect start to the Premier League with a 7-3 victory over Simon Whitlock in front of a PDC-record 12,000 crowd at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.

Smith and Whitlock, both among the favourites for relegation at the start of the competition, headed for the debut night in Germany as the surprise pacesetters after winning their first three matches.

But it was Whitlock who lost his unbeaten record in a top-of-the-table clash deprived of quality, which saw both players fail to average more than 89.

Smith, who was relegated in his only previous appearance in this competition in 2016, hit five 180s with a highest checkout of 106 to cement his place at the summit.

Defending champion Michael van Gerwen is hot on the heels of Smith, two points behind, after trouncing Daryl Gurney 7-2.

World champion Rob Cross made it two wins in as many matches courtesy of a 7-3 triumph over Raymond van Barneveld.

Mensur Suljovic got off the mark in emphatic fashion, averaging 106.2 to beat the winless Gerwyn Price 7-3, while Gary Anderson hit a 150 checkout before fighting back from 6-3 behind to secure a point against fellow Scot Peter Wright.
