RAYCHEM lost 59-44 to Regional League Two champions Hucclecote at the weekend but they still secured promotion.

Nerves were evident when the teams took to the court and Raychem struggled to establish their rhythm due to the speed and skill displayed by Hucclecote.

However, the team soon settled and goal shooter Jenny Gray continued where she’d left off the previous week with some great positional play and accurate shooting. Despite closing the gap to five goals at one point, Raychem lost the game 59-44, but the point they gained in defeat was enough to secure second place and a spot in Regional League One.

Player of the match was Jenny Gray.

Promotion means Raychem will be the highest-ranking Wiltshire club in the regional structure at the start of next season.

Meanwhile, Raychem C also secured promotion - to Swindon & District League Division Two - on Saturday by beating Nationwide E 55-23. The Raychem youth shone through, with under 16s Amy Corrie, Lauren Hewitt and Hayley Gough playing intelligent and controlled netball, ably supported by the more experienced players within the squad.

Throughout the game the final result was never in doubt and player of the match deservedly went to Corrie.
