ABBEY Meads secured promotion at the end of their first season in the Regional League structure with a 69-41 victory over Imperial Royal.

Coach Lorraine Bulpitt’s side got off to a flying start and raced into a 7-0 lead but the squad got complacent. Silly passes were made and Imperial edged back into the game but still trailed 16-10 at the first break. In the second quarter, Abbey Meads had better control in attack with great feeds from Sara Kershaw into the two shooters, Caroline Greenfield and Julie Hewitt. Suzi MacDonald and Helen McGrath started to mix it up in the defensive circle and the Imperial shooters were struggling to score the goals.

Half-time changes arrived and in the second half Nikki Carvey put in an outstanding performance at centre. Her control and link-up play helped her side canter away from their opponents, and Abbey finished the third quarter 53-29 in front.

Carvey earned a well deserved player of the match award for her display, as she continued to dominate the game in the final quarter, steering her side into Regional League Two for next season.
