PINEHURST B’s first game of the season in Swindon & District Division One was a close affair, finishing with a 33-30 victory over Abbey Meads A, Rosie Rusga receiving player of the match honours in her top-flight debut.

Pinehurst’s A team claimed a 52-27 win against Raychem B, with goal attack Taylor Goodright the player of the match.

Burmah A and Moredon A was close throughout, with Moredon pulling out a 49-46 victory. It was also nip and tuck between Lawn A and Croft A, Croft drawing level at 22-22 at the half, having trailed by five goals at one stage.

Croft led by three going into the final quarter but back came Lawn, only missing a shot in the final seconds to slip to a 41-40 defeat. Centre Helen Hynes was player of the match for Lawn.

Fairford A took on Raychem C in Division Two and, after losing the first quarter, regrouped to take the lead by the half to eventually win the match 47-33, with goal attack Sasha Gibbs awarded player of the match.

Lawn’s C team managed to claim a win against Nationwide B 41-31, with goalkeeper Florrie Green receiving player of the match honours but Lawn B trailed from the start against newly-relegated Corsham.

By the end of the third quarter, they had played more controlled netball and closed down Corsham’s lead to only four goals but Corsham pulled away to a 39-32 success, Lawn’s centre Jess Hembrough receiving player of the match honours.

In Division Three, Abbey Meads B took on Nationwide C, who started the better and won the first quarter by two goals.

Nationwide’s defensive end debuted a formidable new combination of Jo Hill and Louise Giles, supported by Kalli Kaur in wing defence but Meads secured victory 26-24.

Delta Reds newly-formed B team made their debuts against an experienced Raychem D and, after a shaky first quarter, improved although Raychem claimed a 44-30 triumph.

Recently-promoted Purton A got off to a fine start in their first match against Moredon B, winning 33-16. Della Hunt was named player of the match.

Delta’s C team played Coleview in Division Four, eventually losing 44-24 as Ann Forrester was awarded player of the match.

Lawn D played their first match of the season against Wootton Bassett B, but were beaten 36-31.

Abbey Mead C’s first game of the season in Division Five saw them take on Burmah C and slip to a 27-10 defeat.

Lawn’s newly-formed E team showed strength and determination, during their first match of the season against Melksham, before being edged out 33-32, despite a player of the match effort from goal attack Brook Drayton.

LAWN’S Regional League Two squad played their first match of the season away to Bath where they slipped to a 60-44 defeat with goal defence Phoebe Allsopp the player of the match.

Nationwide’s Regional League team started their 2016/17 campaign against Poole without both of their shooters and key defender Shannon Stephenson due to a fractured ankle but started well and gained a good lead.

Nationwide’s defence of Rachel Kelly, Amy Cottle, and Hayley Neate dominated in a 41-34 success, with Neate awarded player of the match.

NATIONWIDE Over 35s dominated Fairford 28-7 as player of the match went to Paula Martin.

Lawn’s undefeated Wednesday night summer league team received their winning trophy and medals on Saturday.
