'Don't panic,' says Williamson

SWINDON prop Gary Williamson has insisted there is no need to panic despite the club’s slow starts to recent matches.

The Greenbridge Road side have enjoyed a decent start to the South West 1 East season, but their 30-28 loss to Windsor last time out highlighted how slow Neil Loader’s side have been out of the blocks, as they struggled to claw their way back into the game.

But Williamson, a summer recruit from Wootton Bassett, is staying calm and believes they will get things right soon.

“I think it is all going to come good, and there is certainly no need to be worrying about things at the moment,” he said.

“We are only eight or nine games in and there is a long way to go, and we have been working hard in training.

“We have had a lot of new players and we have all settled in well, so I am sure it will be okay.

“We are keen to bounce back because we are upset about the way we lost last week.

“We have got to come out in matches and play for the whole 80 minutes, because we gave ourselves far too much to do and we just fell short.

“It is all there, but we just need to show it now and put a proper performance together, although sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don’t, and that is all that happened.”

Swindon are back on home soil tomorrow as they host Witney, and Williamson is keen to add another victory to the clubs proud home record.

“We are very keen to put a good performance in at home because as a club we are proud of our record on our own pitch, and we want to be proud of ourselves,” he said.

“I don’t think any team is happy to lose a home game, and that is especially true for Swindon because Greenbridge Road is a fortress for us and we want to keep it that way.

“We get a good amount of people coming to watch us and we like to make it hard for teams to come to us.

“We want to win every game we play, but at home we want it that little bit more because we have pride.”

Williamson has never come across Witney before in his career, but is focusing on his own game rather than the unknown opposition.

“I don’t know all that much about Witney because I have not played against them before,” he said.

“There are a few of the places I have played before, but whoever I play against I try to do my best and play my part for the team.”
