Skipper backs Swindon to upset Bracknell
6:00am Friday 22nd March 2013 in Rugby By Andy Warren
Adam Westall
SWINDON captain Adam Westall has insisted his side are more than capable of winning their ‘David versus Goliath’ battle with South West 1 East leaders Bracknell tomorrow.
The Berkshire side have already smashed the 100-point barrier as they look nailed on to return to National League rugby next season, having previously played as high as the Championship.
Swindon sit fourth in the table with four games left to play, and while Westall knows his side will have to be at their best to come away with any points, he sees no reason why they can’t.
“We’re pretty excited about the game and we want to go out there and have a go at them, because they have only been beaten once this year and that was by Old Cents who are probably the best side we have played.
“Bracknell have been up in the Championship so this is very much a David and Goliath type scenario, but we are confident going into it even though they are pretty much a semi-professional side.
“On our day we will give any of the top sides a run for their money, but we will all have to be at our very best to even be competitive with them. “If conditions allow we will look to play the attacking rugby we like, but our pitch is bad at the moment and the weather forecast is for it only to get worse before kick-off.”
Last time out Swindon suffered a defeat away at Witney which saw them drop behind Reading to fourth in the table, making the clash with the leaders all the moment important in the race for third place.
“We were very aware Witney was a banana skin waiting to happen and we just didn’t turn up against them, and we now need to give it our very best when we play Bracknell at home because we don’t like anyone else to win at our place,” Westall said.
“We will give our best, and if we come off having lost but put in our best effort then that is all we can do.”
In Southern Counties South Supermarine travel to Frome while Wootton Bassett make the trip to Devizes, but Swindon College Old Boys are not in Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier action this week.
