Swindon out to make a statement
VICTORY over Towcestrians tomorrow would leave Swindon in a dominant position in the South West 1 East table despite not even being close to the finished article, skipper Adam Westall has insisted.
The Greenbridge Road side currently sit second in the standings, six points behind Oxford Harlequins and two ahead of tomorrow’s opponents.
A win would put Swindon clear in second and give them a comfortable cushion from the chasing pack, which Westall believes would send out a real statement to the rest of the league.
“We drew at Witney last weekend but would have lost that one in years gone by so we have to be positive about that,” he said.
“Towcestrians have been strong all season after coming across from Midlands rugby and we don’t know too much about them.
“We spoke to the guys from Salisbury about a few different bits and they seem very organised with a good kicker, organised pack and a good seven.
“It’s not about them, though, and if we turn up and deliver to our best ability then there aren’t many sides who can live with us in this division.
“We’ve played Reading, Salisbury, Witney, Towcestrians this weekend and then Windsor next week which is a really tough five weeks of rugby whichever way you look at it.
“If we come through it all with a win out of both we will be very happy with where we are, although we are not even close to being the finished article just yet.
“We are being stretched in terms of injuries but we’re confident and will give it everything.”
