Marine remember clubman Steve

Swindon Advertiser: Supermarine head coach Sean Millwaters Supermarine head coach Sean Millwaters

SUPERMARINE are to harness the power of remembrance on Saturday as they look to overcome Fairford.

Long-time member Steve Richardson sadly passed away last weekend and Marine coach Sean Millwaters is hoping that the memories of the former clubman will inspire his side.

“Steve was not just your average member, he was a much loved guy, a larger than life guy,” said Millwaters.

“We’re going to be remembering Steve on Saturday, there’ll be a minute’s silence before the match. We’re hoping remembering Steve, coupled with President’s Day, will drive us to achieve what we want to achieve.”

Should Millwaters’ side win they’ll be right back in the Dorset & Wilts 1 North promotion picture. However, Millwaters is focused on the job in hand.

“There’s some interesting games going on around us but we have to focus on Fairford,” he said.

“We got a bonus point win there earlier in the season but it was a tough game of rugby.

“I guess we go into a game with a slight edge. If we’re not on our game and we give Fairford a chance we’ll be in trouble, the first 20 minutes will be key,” Millwaters told the Advertiser.

“The style of rugby we’re playing has improved from when we played them earlier in the season. We’re not a run of the mill, route one rugby team. We like to move the ball around and play with it in hand.”

Though the weather has put paid to a number of recent Supermarine games it has also given them a chance to get their squad back to full strength.

“It’s going to be very tough on Thursday when it comes to leaving people out,” said Millwaters.

“We’ve had some weeks this season where we’ve known the 15 players starting and struggling to get three replacements.

“To go into the game with everyone available is very nice.”
