KEVIN Gough says that his Swindon side are still motivated despite having little left to play for in South West 1 East.

Swindon are currently fourth in the table but are 10 points behind Windsor in third. With four games left Swindon could overtake the Berkshire club if results were to go their way, but in all likelihood there is little chance of alteration in the standings.

For Gough this is a season of transition at the Greenbridge Road club but as part of that he thinks Swindon can, and should, end on a high by going undefeated in their remaining four games.

“The players are still consistent and going strong, if there was a possibility to go on further then we could do that,” said Gough.

“In the last four matches the players are aiming for four wins, 100% that’s what we’re going for.”

Swindon are coming off the back of a dramatic win last Saturday against Buckingham. Coming back from 32-5 down Swindon fought back to win with the final kick of the game. It was a victory that Gough says brings confidence going into their game with Cheltenham this weekend.

“It gives you a boost as Buckingham dropped off a little and we were able to push on. The determination to win in the last few minutes was very good. At the moment, it’s not the name of the team that’s important it’s getting the win.”

There’s been a bit of an overhaul of the first XV at Swindon this season, something Gough thinks will benefit the team in the long run.

“I think every club has a turnaround of players and we’ve had that this season, and as a club we’re growing as well.

“I can’t comment on the turnaround (of players) too much, as I’ve been injured for a part of the season, but we’ve got a few faces that have come in and done well. I think it would be unfair to pull out any times in particular but the new guys have all done well. We’re working for promotion next season.”
