Strong end of season would benefit Bassett's next campaign

Swindon Advertiser: Alan Low Alan Low

ROYAL Wootton Bassett head coach Alan Low thinks the stronger his side finish this season the better placed they will be at start of the next campaign.

Low wants his side to be judged on how they have performed since Christmas as he takes his time to bed systems into the team and around club.

Since December, Bassett have only lost to one team outside the Southern Counties North’s top two of Aylesbury and Bletchley, so in terms of results it’s easy to see the improvement.

Low is now hoping to use the remaining fixtures as a springboard for the 2014/15 season now his syle imprint is taking form.

“We played really well against Bletchley from now till the end of the year I want to take that standard into pre-season. Right now we’re looking alright, the stronger we finish the better placed we are at the start of next season,” said Low.

“These are still the same guys who started at the beginning of the season and it’s about giving them that creativity and the will to play a bit.”

In their narrow 10-7 defeat to Bletchley last week, Bassett put in a performance that had several of the club’s older members eulagising the rugby being played by Low’s side.

“All the old players came to us at the end of the game and said how proud they were with the way the players played.”

For tomorrow’s game with Drifters, Bassett will still be without catain Tim Gallimore and Duncan Fulling.

From next season Bassett will be putting out a third adult team, with the idea of integrating colts into senior rugby. As a result the club are recruiting, anyone interested should contact Steve Milner on 07919 410755.
