RUGBY: Supermarine bounce back with victory at Calne

SUPERMARINE coach Sean Millwaters was pleased to see his team bounce back from last week’s disappointing loss against Bradford-upon-Avon with a bonus point win.

Marine travelled to Calne expecting a hostile encounter but left with a 33-12 win and their confidence restored.

It was especially good show from Marine considering they were with top try-scorer Matty Dickens and their standout forward John Mason.

The win keeps Marine in the hunt for the title as their league rivals around them all won. The Blues play their game in-hand on Saturday knowing a win puts them right back in the championship picture.

For Millwaters the win was the start of a cup run for his side as they need to win their last four games.

“We said at the start of the game this is a quarter-final, next week is the semi and the last is the final.

“The scoreline flattered them and they didn’t do badly. We were too well drilled for them in defence and with our attacking rugby the way that we played.

“We wanted to bounce back and the fact we had three players missing the guys went out did what they had to.”

Five tries, three from the backs Alex Robinson, Stuart Doughty, Chris Dawes, plus two from the forwards Monty Green and James Atherton got the job done for the South Marston side.

Atherton’s try was probably the pick of the scores, the forward taking a reverse angle to outstrip Calne’s line to go under the posts.

Supermarine now move on to Saturday’s clash with Devizes seconds.

Swindon College Old Boys could not follow-up there first win of the season last week as a slow start cost them in their loss against 26-17 loss to Wallingford.

Four unanswered tries meant Charlie Grabe’s two self-converted tries and a penalty were not enough.

Meanwhile in Dorset & Wilts Division One North Minety continued their pursuit of the league title with a six try demolition of Chippenham seconds.
