SWINDON College Old Boys will be aiming to build on their opening day success when they face Chipping Norton at home on Saturday.

Manager Mark Lee should be able to field a stronger side this weekend after two weddings within the team last week left him scrambling to put together a starting XV.

Despite that Old Boys were able to overcome Westbury 25-21 in the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Vase and Lee will have more players to pick from this week with only one wedding scheduled.

“It was tough last weekend, we had 15 that I would call first team players that were absent.

“The second team players who stepped up did a really good job for us and it was a useful exercise to see the depth of our squad.

“It has been a couple of years since we played them (Norton) but they used to play a nice brand of rugby but they are probably not as strong now as they were.

“The thing is you never know who they have brought in until the season starts so we will just have to play our own game.

“The thing that was missing in periods last week was that at times our energy levels dropped, this week we have just got to dig deep and give that little bit extra.”

Royal Wootton Bassett start their season at home to Bicester this weekend.

Head coach Alan Low will be looking for the perfect start to the season and will be boosted by the return of former captain Gary Williamson.
