ROYAL Wootton Bassett failed to stick to their game plan as they succumbed to an 18-12 defeat away to Drifters.

Bassett were short on players heading into the match and head coach Alan Low had to pull on a jersey in the second half to make up the numbers.

Two second-half tries from Gary Williamson, who went under the posts, and Hamish Forbes-Keith, who scored out wide, were not enough to prevent the visitors suffering their first defeat of the season.

“It was frustrating, we left Drifters, on Saturday, very frustrated with ourselves,” said Low.

“We lost the game - they didn’t win it, it was difficult because we under performed on the day and they played really well.

“We were without a few first-choice players for various reasons, but I still felt we went up there with a side capable of winning the game.

“We set out some goals before the match, which during the game we didn’t stick to.

“I wanted us to impose ourselves in a big away game and try to stifle the ball but we didn’t do that.

“The line out didn’t really function too well and when we did come up with some ball we didn’t use the ball very well.

“The try that won the game for them was scored with just five minutes to go so that shows you how tight the game was.”
