SWINDON were given a rude awakening last weekend when they were beaten for the first time in the league at the hands of Newbury Blues.

Now Ben Saville and his teammates will be looking to get their season back on track when they host Reading at Greenbridge Road.

Swindon made a flying start to the season as they headed to the top of the South West One East table with three maximum point wins for Sean Lynn’s men.

However that run was ended when they visited Newbury, who also went into the match unbeaten, with Swindon on the wrong end of a 34-15 scoreline.

After a tight first half which finished 8-6 to Swindon, Newbury dominated after the break and pulled away to score the bonus-point win and leave Swindon fifth in the table, four points off league leaders Chippenham.

Swindon hooker Saville is now looking for his side to respond against Reading and has highlighted the set pieces as an area where the game can be won or lost.

The visitors head into the game without a win to their name yet but Swindon will not take them lightly as a result.

“I think last week was a bit of a reality check and now we are ready to go and put it right,” said Saville.

“It was a game that we should have won. It was disappointing really I don’t like getting beaten by a side when we’ve been better.

“In training we have been practising a lot of our set pieces because that was a side of our game that was pretty poor last weekend.

“We played Reading last year and they are no mugs, we’ve just got to turn up with the right attitude on the day.

“We need to get out of the blocks quickly, make sure our set piece is solid and we must play with the forwards.

“The start of the season has been great, obviously it was disappointing losing last week but if we play like we have done in the first three games then we should win this weekend.

“We like to play a fast expansive game and sometimes we’ve got to be able to change our game up and keep it in the forwards.

“We have a full squad out so there will be no reason why we shouldn’t win.”

Swindon kick-off tomorrow against Reading, Greenbridge Road at 3pm.
