SWINDON College Old Boys continued their unbeaten start to the season as they rolled over Cricklade 70-0 in the in the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Vase.

Head coach Mark Lea was impressed by his side’s professional display against a weakened Cricklade side and used the opportunity in the cup to experiment with his line up.

Liam Spillane, from full back, was the pick of the College team as he scored four tries through superb lines and evasive running to get the home-side on the right track.

Winger Charlie Grabe bagged himself a hat-trick to add to a brace from Stu Knight while further tries from Toby Haynes, Liam Davis and Matt Allen to completed the rout.

Knight made several good breaks to set the hosts up for their tries but Lea was full of praise for his defence as they held strong to prevent Cricklade scoring a single point.

“I am really happy with the convincing win,” said Lea.

“The lads took their chances well and in a game where you are breaking the tackle at almost every attack it’s very difficult to keep the structure we want to play with against a stronger opposition.

“Cricklade were weakened by a few absent lads, but we can only play against the team we have in front of us, so the good positives we take from the game are that our defence stood strong and didn't ship any points against.

“We also managed to use the game to look at a couple of lads in different positions which all looks good for the strength in dept we are building every week.

“Cricklade had great heart and a few good players, but they were outclassed this week in all areas.”

Lea has quickly turned his attention back to the league where they travel to Gosford All Blacks hoping to add to their opening two victories.

“The squad really needs to focus on training this week as we have a tough trip to Gosford at the weekend,” Lea added.
