SUPERMARINE head coach Sean Millwaters is remaining positive despite watching his side fail to score a point against a rampant Salisbury side.

Millwaters always expected that it would be a tough season for his side, after they made the step up to Southern Counties South , but the early fixtures have already seen them face several of the teams who will be contesting for the title come the end of the year.

Supermarine played host to unbeaten Salisbury on Saturday and despite a spirited, especially from the pack, they could not prevent the lop-sided 62-0 scoreline.

“We played really well – you have got to remember that Salisbury came down from the league above so last season there were two leagues between us,” said Millwaters.

“We were worried when we saw that they had beaten North Dorset 52-0 and we lost by 60 points to them.

“At half time I think it was 22-0 and the guys had played really well, the pack was outstanding. But in the second half, I think they worked out a couple of our weaknesses and they capitalised.”

The challenge ahead of Supermarine does not get any easier as they head to top of the league Swanage & Wareham this weekend.

Despite shipping 252 points already this season, Millwaters believes that his side is improving every week and is focused on the mini-league that appears to be developing in the table.

“Nothing changes for us, like I have said all along our aim for this season is to consolidate and stay in the league, even if that means finishing in 10th,” he said.

“There are definitely going to be six teams that will be going for the league, and then there will be six that are going to be fighting to stay in the league.

“We’ve only played Corsham so far out of those six and we were unlucky when we lost to them.

“We have been unfortunate in the way the fixtures have put us against the top team early on but we have a good run before Christmas that we have always targeted to take points from.

“We are looking to play the same game being played against us the difference is when you get to this level the teams are very clinical, we must just learn as much as we can.”
