SUPERMARINE Ladies put up a decent performance in their 34-12 Championship South West Two defeat against top-of-the-table Wasps Ladies seconds on Sunday.

Wasps took the early lead and added to their tally twice more in the first half, although Supermarine spent significant periods of the half camped in the Wasps’ 22.

The weather dictated a physical up-front game of rugby and just before half time, Supermarine number eight Emily Clarke finished off a superb team effort with a pick-and-go try, which was converted by Nat Williams.

The second half was similar, with Wasps able to use the width of the pitch effectively against a tiring Supermarine and add to their score.

But Marine did not let their heads drop and continued with an admirable defensive effort, again coming back at their opponents with a second try from Clarke.

Forward of the match was Clarke, with Williams the pick of the three-quarters.

Marine’s next fixture is a cup game against Rosslyn Park in two weeks time.
