SWINDON College Old Boys will be focused for their toughest test of the season when they face Marlborough in the semi-final of the 1st XV Vase tomorrow.

The home side may be unbeaten in all competitions so far this season but they know that they will have to be at their best if they are to book a place in the final.

It will not help either that head coach Mark Lea will be without two first team regulars in fly half Ross Saville and second row Damon Murphy, who will instead be at Twickenham watching England face New Zealand.

Lea though has his sights on winning the cup and he has confidence that his team could get the better of their opponents, who sit second in Dorest and Wilts One North.

“The team is focused at the moment and there is a real determination around the boys ahead of the two big tests over the next weeks,” said Lea.

“Ross Saville and Damon Murphy are two of our on-the-field leaders so we will feel their absence, however I have every confidence in our squad.

“Marlborough will be a huge test for us. They have a strong back row and their nine and 10 combination is quick, and they are scoring tries for fun.

“We will approach this game with the highest level of respect.

“We want to win the cup. The league for us edges the cup but it’s a chance to win some silverware and a chance for the squad to be a team that is remembered in our club’s history.

“I think with both teams scoring tries for fun in their respective leagues, it will be discipline and defence that wins this cup tie, so we have focused heavily on that this week.”
