SATURDAY March 8, is a day that many at Royal Wotton Bassett rugby club would like to forget as they succumbed to a humbling 87-8 defeat to Aylesbury.

Alan Low’s players have been waiting for this Saturday since the final whistle blew on that day and revenge will be the aim at Ballard’s Ash tomorrow.

“We kind of owe them one a little bit,” said Low. “We had a good game against them at home last year and then when we went away, we really let ourselves down.

“It was one of those, as a squad, we just had to draw a line under it.

“We went up there with a real mixed bag of players last season and the guys on the day all tried as hard as they could but we just didn’t click.

“We do owe them a bit of comeuppance really because they really put us to the sword last time.

“There have already been a few conversations with me asking what we are doing because need to do ourselves a bit more justice.

“There is going to be a bit of bite to it and it will be interesting to see where they are this season.

“I thought they would have been at the top of the table this year.”

Despite another tough week of training, the whole squad went out for a curry last night to help keep morale high ahead of their important game.

Aylesbury sit just one place and two points above Bassett and Low believes a win will put his side in a strong position in Southern Counties North.

“We have built all the foundations through the summer to get the skill level up and keep the skill level high,’’ he added.

“It is just making sure everything is flowing on a Thursday night ready for Saturday.

“We’ve got to keep it ticking over and ramp the fun factor up a bit.”
