SWINDON College Old Boys head coach Mark Lea is hoping that his side show no signs of rustiness after almost a month without a game.

With Aylesbury Prison having dropped out of the league Lea’s side had an extra weekend off to prepare for the arrival of Gosford All Blacks tomorrow.

Lea had hoped that the extra time off would allow for a few players to return from injury but he will still be without top scorer Liam Spillane, Liam Davis and second row duo Thomas Farr and Damon Murphy.

“We had the enforced break last weekend because we were meant to play Aylesbury Prison, who pulled out of the league, so we have had a longer break than most,” said Lea, who is hoping that the game does not fall foul of the weather.

“We were hoping it was going to be good, with people getting over injuries, but that hasn’t proved the case to be honest.

“The squad is strong enough to cope with this and the lads coming in I have every confidence in but our opponents are on a good run of results.

“Since we played them last they have only lost to the league leaders so we are expecting quite a tough game.

“A very influential player for them is their fly-half and he didn’t play against us when we played them at their place and since he has been back they have only lost once and they pulled them quite close.

“We have the next round of the national cup against Hungerford next week so we want to bring the momentum from this game into that hopefully.

“From a coaching perspective we definitely feel that the league is our priority but I do think that the players, because there is a chance to play at Twickenham at the end of it, I think their priority is the cup.”
