ENGLAND winger Jonny May says he is ready to take on some of the best in the business in his position when they go head-to-head with Wales in the World Cup tomorrow night.

Chiseldon’s May has kept his place in Stuart Lancaster’s starting XV at Twickenham for what could be a deciding fixture in the outcome of Pool A.

May won his 17th England cap in their tournament opening win over Fiji last Friday and is the senior winger in the side, with five more caps than fellow flyer Anthony Watson.

They are still relative novices in the international game compared to one their opposite numbers, with Wales winger George North boasting more than a half-century of caps.

Although Hallam Amos has also been selected by Warren Gatland for just the fifth time on the other wing, they do have the experienced Alex Cuthbert to fall back on amongst the replacements.

Former Royal Wootton Bassett RFC junior May is aware of just how dangerous come of Wales’ backs can be and knows England will be pushed to their limits to contain them.

“He (North) is a talisman for them and a world class player,” said May.

“We can’t give him too much space and need to keep an eye on him and mark him because he’s a threat.

“There is no special plan but you can’t let guys like that have space on the ball and give him the opportunities to show what he can do.

“Alex is an incredible athlete. He is strong, fast and big and is a great player.

“He has played numerous times for Wales and is a British Lion.

“He is a great opponent and I am going to have to be at my best if I come up against him.”
