SWINDON College Old Boys head coach Mark Lea has a selection headache of a different kind this week as he prepares his team for cup action.

Rather than the pounding migraine of having 12 forwards missing for last weekend’s narrow defeat to Bletchley, Lea will now have to put up with the noise of disgruntled players waiting on the sideline.

It is a nice problem for College to have as they look to embark on another memorable cup run.

Last season was defined by College’s exploits in the knock-out form of the game as they lifted the Southern Counties Senior Vase before being stopped two games shy of an appearance at Twickenham.

College now face Southern Counties South outfit Wimborne in the quarter-finals of the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Cup and more important than a cup run will be a win for the team that have lost their opening three games by the smallest of margins.

“We move from many missing to too many available,” he said.

“Selection will be a headache in a different way this week - do we stay loyal to the guys who travelled last week or do we bring back some key players?

“The choice is between being loyal to the guys from last week and bringing back some of the 12 lads who could not play last week.

“You always have people carrying knocks - but we do have more returning this week.

“The club just needs a win; league or cup we need to feel a victory.

“I think after last year, the romance of the cup will inspire the lads.”
