SWINDON will be searching for consistency when they hit the road and return to action at Leighton Buzzard this weekend.

The Greenbridge Road outfit only played twice in October and the fixture list’s yawning chasm made for a topsy-turvy month in South West One East, with little opportunity to bounce back from successive defeats at the hands of Grove and Salisbury.

Swindon have also had to deal with a lengthening injury list, which includes the likes of George Lee, who has a shoulder injury, Troy Badenski, who is sidelined with a twisted knee, and Mike Thompson, who has yet to return to full fitness following an ankle problem.

However, Swindon have been on a recruitment drive and could hand debuts to a trio of Hartpury College students – Hamish Renwick, Joshua Allan and Argentina-born Guido Suez – in Bedfordshire, whilst Tim Berry and Adam Dobie are also set to return from injury.

Leicestershire-based Tommy Farr is also set to feature again after a spell out with a knee injury, whilst Joshua Jensen also returns from international duty with the Denmark sevens side.

“We won four games at the start of the season against sides that have come up into the league but our style of rugby is made for when the pitches are good,” said Swindon team manager Paul Ferrier.

“In the last month, we’ve not had many games and we’ve come up against two good sides.

“Our physio told me that we’ve had a lot of deep injuries over this last month – that doesn’t mean breaks or anything like that but a lot of muscle and tendon problems across the squad.

“But we’ve still managed to train well. We’ve had to scrum machine out a lot to work on tightening up our scrum and we’re just ready for things to settle down again now.

“We’ve got a long coach trip on Saturday but we’ve drafted in a few lads from Hartpury College and have a few guys coming back from injury.

“Leighton Buzzard are a tough team. It’s a long trip and it’s not going to be an easy game but hopefully we can go there and come back with a good result.”
