SUPERMARINE head coach Sean Millwaters was less than impressed with his side’s second-half performance at Devizes 2nd.

The South Marston outfit were cruising as they headed to towards the break but a lapse in concentration allowed their hosts to apply some pressure.

While Millwaters was confident that Devizes were never going to overhaul them, he wants his Supermarine players to learn from their mistakes in the Dorset and Wilts One North clash.

“The thing we have to take from this match is not to switch off at half-time,” Millwaters said.

“We had the bonus point and we were comfortable - we just let them have the ball and didn’t dominate the breakdown in the second half.

“We just have to remember to stay focused. We have to remember that the game isn’t won until the final whistle goes.”

John Mason led the charge for Supermarine at London Road as he bagged a brace of tries, while Carl Baker, Owain Hire and Sean Rees, who converted his own score, also crossed the whitewash.

Yet despite their five tries, the South Marston chief felt that his side should have stayed switched on during the second 40 minutes.

“We raced into a 22-10 lead at half-time and they only scored a try with the last play of the half,” the Supermarine head coach said.

“We went in at half-time comfortable but when we came out, we went inside ourselves.

“There was a bit of wind and a slope but we made it difficult for ourselves.

“They went to a kicking game and we just didn’t deal with. They came back into the game but they never really looked like catching us.

“I think that we just had a bad 20 minutes at the start of the second half but they didn’t really put us under any real pressure - they just had one player who scored all their points.

“We also should have dealt with their fly-half better as he was their only dangerous player.”
