SUPERMARINE Ladies remain third in Championship South West Two despite a 12-7 defeat at fourth-placed Teddington.

Marine were made to pay for their slow start as their hosts opened the scoring with a converted try.

The South Marston side dominated in the scrum in the early stages but were undisciplined at the breakdown, leading to a turnover and another Teddington try with only 15 minutes on the clock.

Despite Marine’s best efforts they were unable to break their hosts down in the first half.

In the second period, Teddington lost a player to the sin-bin following an infringement at the scrum.

This allowed Marine to drive forward and, after being held up short, a change of direction from captain Claire Chard saw full-back Jenny Benton make a break through the Teddington line to cross the whitewash. Winger Natalie Williams added the extras.

Teddington tried to restore their advantage but were repelled.
