PROFESSIONALISM will be the key for Royal Wootton Bassett as they look to remain the top candidates for the Southern Counties South title.

The odds will be stacked heavily in Bassett’s favour when they make the trip to basement boys Dorchester this weekend, but head coach Alan Low will continue to warn his troops against complacency.

Bassett are currently four points clear of second-placed Midsomer Norton but Low is convinced that his team will need to maintain their high standards when they run out in Dorset on Saturday.

“We take very game on its merits and the message has been that we can’t afford to look past any game because that’s when we’ll slip up, and things are so tight that we can’t afford to do that,” said the Bassett chief.

“Dorchester came to us earlier in the season and we might have won (26-5 on December 5) but they had a good set-piece and a couple of dangerous backs in their side.

“We go into every game concentrating on producing the same level of performance and if we do that, with what we’ve got, we know that we’ve got the firepower to win matches – that’s what we’ll be trying to do on Saturday.”

Elsewhere, Swindon College Old Boys are back on home turf in Southern Counties North this weekend as they host Thatchame whilst Supermarine take on Minety in Dorset & Wilts One North.

ROYAL Wotton Bassett Colts have made the final of the Dorset & Wilts U18 Cup after travelling to the South Coast and thrashing Swanage & Wareham 34-0.

Bassett, who are also currently top of the Dorset & Wilts U18 division, ran in six tries without reply, Jake O’Neill, Joe Jenkins, Scott Douglas, Harry Russ, Sam Haskell and Eyle Darragh all crossing the line, with Dan Sweeney kicking two conversions and William Fieldsend also successfully adding the extras to the visitors’ final score of the game.
