SWINDON skipper Adam Westall is calling on his team to end the current campaign on a high and lay steadfast foundations for next term.

The Greenbridge Road side, who are currently eighth in South West One East, have struggled for consistency in recent weeks and with just five matches of the season remaining, their captain says that the immediate goal should be clear.

“We’ve just got to build towards the next few weeks and build a platform for the summer and pre-season,” said Westall.

“We’ve also just to get bodies to training. You’ve got to do your grafting out there and Saturday’s the easy bit, really.

“I think we’re in that place at the moment; a bit of a lull, in terms of where we’re at. It’s down to injuries we’ve had at the club and how we’re approaching that.

“We’ve been stretched before Christmas but we’re getting some of those boys back. It was great to see Tom Mannion back (on Saturday) from a year out injured.

“Those sort of guys are key because they’re club men that have been at here a long time and they bring a certain culture to our side, and they’ll bring the younger lads that we bring in on.”

After putting their feet up last weekend, Swindon are back in action on Saturday as they make the trip to sixth-placed Oxford Harlequins.

Oxford have won three of the last five and romped to a 22-0 victory when they travelled to Greenbridge Road back on November 28, handing Westall’s side plenty of reason for caution ahead of their visit to Marston Ferry Road.

The Swindon skipper said: “They’re a very good side. We played them at home earlier in the season and they smashed us, really.

“From one to 15, they’re a very accurate side and very big, so we’ll be up against it.”
