SWINDON suffered their heaviest defeat of the season on Saturday when they were hit by a tornado at home by South West One East leaders Towcestrians.

Sean Lynn’s side were swept aside 72-19 at Greenbridge Road to make it two defeats on the bounce and no wins in their last four.

Towcestrians looked very much like a side on course to be crowned champions at the end of the season as they powered into a 31-5 lead at half-time.

The one-way traffic continued in the second half as Towcestrians ran riot once more, with the 72 points they racked up the most Swindon have conceded since they went down 79-7 away at Oxford Harlequins in October 2013.

Swindon can perhaps take some comfort from the fact they were able to run in three tries against the second meanest defence in the division, although that still left them one short of finishing the say with the consolation of a bonus point.

Elsewhere, Swindon College Old Boys were unable to make it back-to-back wins in Southern Counties North for the first time this season after going down 52-20 at home to Wallingford.

College recorded just their third league win of the season when they beat Thatcham 15-3 a fortnight ago but there was no repeat performance this weekend.

The defeat keeps College at the foot of the table, one point below Drifters, with the team not in action this coming weekend.
