ALAN Low insists that Royal Wootton Bassett’s focus will be solely on Frome and not the potential crowning of new Southern Counties South champions.

The Ballards Ash outfit head to Somerset knowing that come 5pm tomorrow they could be celebrating a league championship – providing they win and Midsomer Norton fail to do so at Devizes.

However, the head coach says that the focus for his side, who sit four points clear at the summit with two games remaining, must be on beating their hosts.

“When we played Frome at our place (in December) they didn’t look like a bottom three side (as Bassett won 19-12),” Low said.

“We have to focus on them and not what is happening elsewhere because that is when you become unstuck.

“One of the goals at the start of the season was to win the league and the last time we spoke about that with the players was at Christmas.”

Bassett head to Gypsy Lane having not played last weekend and Low says that it has been difficult for every side this term to find consistency.

“It has been so stop-start, stop-start this year,” Low added. “It has been really hard.

“It has been a knock-on effect from the World Cup and planning the national leagues around that.”

Low says that he will have to find the right balance tomorrow with the club’s colts section playing Wimborne in a cup final at Warminster on Sunday.

“We had seven Under 19s playing in the game against Bradford on Avon (which Bassett won 55-5),” Low said.

“But the colts have a cup final on Sunday so I want to try and be fair to them and allow them to play in that.”
