SWINDON will attempt to atone for their 72-19 drubbing at the hands of Towcestrians a fortnight ago when they play their final home match of the season this weekend.

Sean Lynn’s side suffered the crushing defeat to the South West One East leaders on their last outing at Greenbridge Road and face another tough task on Saturday against Newbury Blues, who are still in with a shout of promotion.

Although it will not be easy, head coach Lynn is desperate to give the Swindon fans something to cheer.

“It’s a massive game for us. We want to build momentum for next season and we want to sign off at home with a good performance,” said Lynn.

“It was a huge defeat, we didn’t play well enough, it’s as simple as that.

“As a coach, a player and a supporter, you don’t want to see your side on the receiving end of a scoreline like that, so hopefully we can put in bit of a response.

“Newbury are also chasing those promotion spots as well so they will come down here hungry to win and it’s a bit of a cup final for us.”

Swindon lost 34-31 at Maidenhead last weekend and have now gone five matches without a win.

Lynn admits the stop-start nature of the post-Christmas period has not been kind on his side but he hopes to take a step in the right direction on Saturday.

“We’ve struggled with injuries and players being unavailable and a lot of this season has been one week on, one week off, and we have struggled to cope with that,” added Lynn.

“We haven’t dealt as well with it as a lot of other teams have. We have got to react better.

“This will be our third week in a row with a game, so hopefully it will help us perform as well as we can.”
