SWINDON may have signed off their home campaign in South West One East with a defeat, but head coach Sean Lynn was a lot happier than the last time his side ran out at Greenbridge Road.

A fortnight ago, Swindon were swept aside 72-19 by champions Towcestrians, however, Lynn was more content at the weekend despite an 18-12 loss to third-placed Newbury Blues.

“It was a very close match,” the head coach said.

“We could have nicked it at the end but we weren’t very clinical.

“I was just glad that we managed to walk away with a losing bonus point against a side that are likely to finish third.

“I wanted a reaction from our last home game and I got that.”

However, with his side trailing 15-0 at the interval, things weren’t looking so good.

“It was a little disappointing that we didn’t stick to the game plan that we set out before the match,” the head coach said. “We were 15-0 down at half-time.

“Then in the second half we won 12-3 but sadly a game of rugby is played over 80 minutes and not one half.”

Having found themselves down at the break, Swindon responded with a try from Alex Whittaker and a superb score from Toby Eaton. Skipper and fly-half Adam Westall added a conversion.

The defeat means that Swindon will head to Windsor this weekend looking to end their season with a first win since mid-February.
