ROYAL Wootton Bassett head coach Alan Low is hoping for more of the same when his side host Oxford Harlequins this weekend.

Bassett have made a great start to life in their new league, winning their last three fixtures in the South West One East.

After defeating Newbury Blues and Old Centralians, their most recent victory came over Old Patesians, which took them up to sixth in the table. However, tomorrow’s hosts haven’t enjoyed such a fruitful start to the campaign as they have only amassed one point this term.

Yet despite this, Low says he won’t be looking at his team’s next opponents in too much detail as he continues to focus on his youthful side.

“We just concentrate on what we do and try to get the performance right. We don’t focus on who we are playing. We focus on ourselves,” said Low.

“We are at home. The boys love playing at Ballard’s Ash and we just want to get it right.”

Low also admitted this week’s preparation for the game has been more about getting people back up to speed after a highly competitive match at the weekend.

Kyle Lovell, Simon Anderton and David Hogg got Bassett off to a good start as they went into the break holding a narrow 17-14 lead against Old Pats.

The second half was slightly different, with Tim Gallimore making sure Bassett were strong at the back as Elye Darragh and Ieuan Clements got on the scoresheet to grab a 24-21 away win.

Low believes that if his team can repeat that performance again this weekend against Quins, then his team should come away with something from the game.

“I’m sure if we get the performance right again, we will get a positive result. For us, we will be getting the bodies right again for the weekend,” said Low.

“We’ll go for a team run. There will be some changes again this week, so we need to focus on getting everyone up to speed.

“We’ll have a lighter week this week to get the team comfortable with what we are doing because it was a heavy weekend last week.”

Meanwhile, Swindon welcome Old Pats to Greenbridge Road.
