SWINDON College Old Boys made it four wins in a row when they defeated Chesham 22-11 in Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier.

Two tries from Tucker Blinkhorn as well as a solitary effort from Jamie Park added to Flourin Palcau’s two conversions and penalty as they claimed another win.

Head coach Mark Lea was happy with how his side played at the weekend, against a tough defence at Chesham.

“I would say it was a good win, Chesham’s two coaches are ladies (Kat Merchant and Rochelle Clark) who have both played for England,” said Lea.

“That showed in the way they played, they were a very young side, I would say their average age would be 22.

“They were very well drilled which is a reflection on the level of coaching they have been getting, defensively they were as strong as any side we’ve played this year.

“ To score three tries, when they have only conceded one try so far, I was quite pleased.

“It was a good performance, there is more to come but we are getting better as a team.

“We’ve been talking quite strongly over the last couple of weeks about trusting each other as teammates. “We scored one try in the first half through Tucker, that was a set piece move off of the line out and he just crashed over the middle.

“He also scored just after half time with exactly the same move from the line out which worked for us twice and late into the game Park scored in the corner from five metres.”

Lea said his men played more like a team and was especially pleased with how some of the 2nd XV players performed, but says there room for improvement.

“Without doubt there is definitely more of a togetherness about the team on Saturday, we played better as a team,” he added.

“However, we did probably leave three tries out there, just from really silly mistakes.

“We had to travel with only two substitutes, there was a very much a feeling that we were in this together and the players pulled together.

“It was good to see some guys from the second team come up to the first team and perform well, one in particular was Terry Gibbs, he came on in the second half and made so many tackles.”

SUPERMARINE narrowly missed out on a win this weekend as they lost 24-23 to Melksham in the Dorset and Wilts One North.
