SUPERMARINE may be counting themselves unlucky on the injury front this term but 13 proved to be a charm as they vanquished Devizes 2nd 79-10 in Dorset and Wilts One North.

The South Marston side have been missing 10 first-team players due to injuries in recent weeks and that has shown in their results, with their only success before Saturday coming against Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd.

However, with the Supermarine squad now looking more settled, coach Nigel Hire was delighted to see his side run in 13 tries to defeat the division’s basement boys.

Full-back Mike Bapiste led the way with four, while outside centre Mike Smith, wing Matt Huggins and fly-half George Russ, who also kicked seven conversions, all collected braces, with wing Stuart Doughty, replacement Josh Paradise and hooker Denzil Daniel completing the rout.

“We’ve had a horrible, horrible injury list and it has taken time for the players who have come in to get used to playing first-team senior rugby,” Hire said.

“On Saturday, everyone stepped up and were fantastic. We had four of our U18 colts on the pitch as well.

“This win will give us a lot of confidence and with players starting to come back, hopefully this will be the turning point of our season because we have been struggling.

“We haven’t got a game this weekend and hopefully that will allow us to get some more of our players back before we play Minety in two weeks.”
