SWINDON College Old Boys head coach Mark Lea is focused on guiding his side to the Dorset & Wilts Senior Vase final.

With his Pipers Way side holding a near-perfect record in Berks/Buck and Oxon Premier this term – they have 29 points out of a possible 30 from six games – Lea insists that his target this year is to win promotion back to Southern Counties level.

However, he is all too aware that his players want cup success and he will do all that he can to ensure that happens as they head to Dorset & Wilts One North high-flyers Bradford on Avon in the semi-final tomorrow.

“As a coach my goal is to win promotion,” Lea said. “We are committed as club to doing that.

“The lads, though, they like the cup. They like winning cup games and they want to do well.

“A couple of seasons ago we got to the national stages and that is what we are looking to do again.”

College will arrive at Ashley Lane on the back of a 56-12 win over Drifters, who were sitting in second place behind Lea’s men prior to that match.

The Pipers Way side scored 10 tries last weekend despite missing some of their big-hitters.

With the likes of Damon Murphy, Tom Bryne and Drew Blinkhorn all available again this weekend, Lea says that they won’t necessarily walk straight back into his starting XV.

“If you win 56-12 against the team who were second in the table then they deserve another run,” the College head coach said.

“Those players who were missing last weekend will have to bide their time.”

Bradford head coach Dave George said: “If we could get to the final there might be the chance for a bit of silverware before Christmas, but it’s only the semi final at the moment so we’re not looking that far ahead.’’
