ROYAL Wootton Bassett head coach Alan Low says his players are desperate to get back onto the pitch following a weekend without action.

While the break was welcome to rest some tired bodies and minds, it came at the wrong time for Bassett, who had just suffered back-to-back defeats in South West One East.

They were the side’s first defeats of the season since the opening day and Low’s men still sit fourth in the division as they prepare to host Windsor tomorrow.

“The guys were obviously disappointed with the way that we played in the Swindon game before the break and I think they were champing at the bit to get back out and put it right,” said Low.

“It is one of those; the bodies probably needed the rest and the minds because it has been quite intense for us.

“It’s not quite been where we wanted to be but there have been a lot of changes to the squad and that is one of the things we expected coming up a division.

“The start we have had has been brilliant and we are still in a fantastic position.

“We’ve had time to regroup and rested a few boys but we have also had a few injuries that have cropped up that are longer-term things now.”

Fly-half John Clarke is one of those who looks set to be out until the turn of the year after rupturing his groin in a freak accident at home.

However, Low is confident that his players have learned from their mistakes and will be looking to put things right at home to Windsor, who sit three places off the foot of the table, at Ballards Ash this weekend.

“We’ll be approaching it the same as always,” he added.

“We did a video session on Tuesday night and we managed to address some things.

“It was a good opportunity for the players to talk and sound out some of the areas the felt they needed to look at.

“We have got our processes and we failed to execute those.”
