SWINDON College Old Boys’ head coach Mark Lea admits his side didn’t deserve to win their game by such a margin this weekend.

College maintained their perfect record so far this season as they ran out as 34-15 winners away to second-placed Hungerford in Berks/Bucks and Oxon Premier.

Tries from Charlie Grabe, Florin Palcau and Tucker Blinkhorn were enough to see them record their seventh consecutive win.

Despite the 19-point margin, Lea feels it was an unfair reflection on the game after a less-than-perfect performance from his players.

“It was a bigger margin than we deserved to be honest. Hungerford were a very good side and I would say they feel like it is a game they could have won,” said Lea.

“The difference was we came from the league above we have learned to convert our chances and you notice that when you go to the league above.

“Hungerford wasted a few chances when they should have scored but it was a tough game."

However, Lea was happy about how his side demonstrated their clinical edge by taking their chances when they were presented them “I’m pleased that we took our chances but I don’t think we performed as well as we could, we were below par,” added Lea.

“It’s the first time in a few we weeks we haven’t been at our best but it was pleasing we were able to grind out a win.

“It’s good to see that spirit in the team, I think they togetherness is an improvement on last year, which we will need if we do go up next year.

Lea also thinks his side may be struggling with the demands of being involved in both cup and league competitions with such a small group of players.

He said:”It’s just a bad day, they were very good at spoiling. We couldn’t get continuity and we were probably lacking a bit of energy to be honest.

“We’ve had a tough couple of games and we are feeling it a little bit, it’s relentless with a small squad to be playing at the impact these guys play it takes its toll.

“We are in the cup which is great, but with that it means we don’t get a break because we are playing every weekend.”
