SWINDON head coach Sean Lynn admits their 39-15 defeat at home to South West One East leaders Maidenhead epitomised their disappointing season to date.

The visitors took the advantage early on, going over the whitewash twice in quick succession to make it 10-0.

Swindon responded through an Adam Westall try in the corner as well as a penalty from the former skipper before Maidenhead struck again before the break to make it 15-10.

Maidenhead started the second period in the same vein as the first, scoring again, but Sam Williams responded for Swindon to make it 20-15, However, the hosts were unable to close the gap further and in the last 15 minutes, the game got away from them as Maidenhead scored 19 unanswered points.

“I don’t think the score reflected the game but you can see why Maidenhead were second in the league, they were very clinical,” said Lynn.

“In the first half, I was very impressed with our performance. We were only down 15-10 and it looked a tight and competitive game.

“I think it has been the story of the season, really. We’re just coming up with simple errors and sides are capitalising on them.

“That is something that we will be looking at over Christmas and going into the new year.”

Swindon now sit third from bottom in the table, just six points off the relegation spots, but Lynn is confident that he has the players to turn things around come the new year.

Lynn said: “The concern is there but I am pretty confident in the players we have got and the leadership from Mike Thompson, especially on the field, and with some of the key players coming back from injury after Christmas, I think we can get some good results."
