SWINDON College Old Boys continued their faultless league campaign with a 52-15 win over Chesham at the weekend.

Head coach Mark Lea had been expecting a tough test, with Chesham the only side College hadn’t scored a bonus point against this season.

But the hosts made light work of their rivals in a comfortable victory for the Berks/Bucks and Oxon Premier league leaders.

Lea believes that his side are fully up to speed after their encounter with Tadley was postponed earlier in January.

“It was a tad easier than I expected. When we played them away, their defence was a lot stronger than it was on Saturday,” said Lea.

“I think it is two-fold. They weren’t as strong but we have improved as well, we played some good stuff in the first half.

“I feel like we are back up to speed now. We played some really nice rugby, especially in the first half and it got a bit scrappy in the second half.”

Tries from Bobby Tilling, Antony Weston, Simon Addis and Florin Palcau, who chipped in with a brace as well as four conversions, had given Lea’s troops a strong half-time advantage as the led 33-7.

Given their dominant position, Lea then saw fit for his side to try out new structures they had been working on in training during the second half and Palcau added another two tries to his tally, plus a further two conversions.

Nick Tuckett also added a solitary effort to round off the comfortable triumph.

“I’m okay with them taking it easy in the second half. The game was more or less won so I asked them to implement things we have been working on,” added Lea.

“I would prefer for us to try some of the structure things we have been practicing because when a game is won, it is a perfect chance to practice those things.”

Elsewhere, Swindon Supermarine lost 53-0 at home to Melksham in Dorset & Wilts One North.
